July 18, 1993 Ð Fans Thrilled by Rage Against the Machine Performance
Fans of Rage Against the Machine were thrilled by the groupÕs set at Lollapalooza yesterday, in which the hard-rock bandÕs four members stood naked for 15 minutes, duct tape over their mouths, and the letters ÒPMRCÓ scrawled across their chests. ÒOh man, it was awesome; thank god I was up so close,Ó raved Jared Greenberg, 19, after the JFK Stadium performance, later described by the band as a silent protest against the Parents Music Resource Center. ÒAt one point, [bassist] Tim CommerfordÕs weenie was sort of bobbing a little bitÑand I could kind of imagine that it was the beat to ÔBombtrack.ÕÓ

July 18, 1993 Ð Fans Thrilled by Rage Against the Machine PerformanceOther fans of the activist Los Angeles quartet were similarly awestruck. ÒI was really hoping to hear ÔBullet in the Head,Õ but 15 minutes of nudity and feedback was just as good,Ó gushed Tina Mandrake, 22. ÒI mean, how many chances do you get to see Tom MorelloÕs balls?Ó Rick Dennis, 30, agreed. ÒIt wouldÕve been nice if they actually, like, played, but this was much more memorable. IÕm actually kind of having trouble getting it out of my head.Ó

Lead singer Zach De La Rocha, meanwhile, was worried that fans misunderstood the message of their John Cage-esque act. ÒWe did what we did to protest the PMRCÕs censorship in a country that ostensibly supports free speech,Ó he said by telephone from a tour stop in West Virginia. ÒOur goal wasnÕt for people to think it was Ôawesome.ÕÓ Unfortunately for the band, however, that was just what fans like Greenberg felt. ÒI canÕt wait to see them again, when they have more than 15 minutes on stage,Ó he said. ÒGodÑan hour and a half of Rage dicks would blow my mind.Ó

August 2, 1996 Ð Iverson Mulling Second Tattoo
Sixers rookie Allen Iverson yesterday revealed that he was considering a second tattooÑbut insisted that he had no interest in canvassing his skin with pictures, words, and Asian symbols. ÒI already got this one cartoon bulldog on my arm, but I think I might want another [tattoo],Ó the #1 draft pick said at a preseason workout. ÒBut just a little one. And just one! I donÕt wanna get all crazy with it, yÕknow?Ó

August 2, 1996 Ð Iverson Mulling TattooSixers coach John Lucas hoped that the brash young point guard would not get carried away. ÒIÕm not a big fan of tattoos, to tell you the truth,Ó he admitted from his CoreStates Center office. Ò[Tattoos are] something that, when I was a player, were just unheard of. But all the same, IÕm trusting that Allen will keep it under control.Ó Small forward Jerry Stackhouse concurred. ÒTattoos are cool, but you donÕt wanna turn into like Dennis Rodman or whatever,Ó he said, referring to the heavily inked Chicago Bull. ÒBut AI ainÕt like that, man. ItÕs not like heÕs going to cover himself with Ôem.Ó

Iverson agreed. ÒI just want one little tat to go with what I already gotÑkeep it company, yÕknow?Ó he laughed. ÒAfter that, IÕm done. I donÕt wanna look like somebody graffitied my ass.Ó He added that he was giving serious consideration to the choice. ÒI was thinkinÕ IÕd get my grammaÕs name done up real nice, yÕknow, somethinÕ like that. But whatever I get, IÕm gonna think it through first. I donÕt wanna look at myself a few years from now and be like, ÔWhat the hell happened?Õ, yÕknow?Ó
